about cal cycling
Cal Cycling is the bicycle racing team of U.C. Berkeley. We're a co-ed club sport, so anyone can join. The team is oriented toward competitive racing, but the atmosphere is low-key, and entering races is by no means required.
Non-members are welcome to ride with us on our regular training rides and rides posted to the Cal Cycling listserve. Also, most rides feature a "no-drop policy" (look at the particular ride to see that it does), which means there's no need to worry about maybe not being able to keep up.
We compete against the many other schools in the West Coast Collegiate Cycling Conference. September through December is mountain biking season, with different schools taking turns putting on races almost every weekend. Disciplines of competition are cross-country, downhill, dual slalom, and maybe even some cyclocross... the details vary from race to race and are up to the host school to decide.
Spring semester is road racing season. Traditionally this is our team's stronger area, and each year Cal Cycling hosts a race weekend that attracts hundreds of collegiate cyclists, riding for schools from San Diego to Chico. Road events include road race, individual and team time trial, and criterium. WCCC doesn't organize track competition, but some members of our team are involved in track racing at the Hellyer Velodrome in San Jose, so if you want to ride track, that's an option too.
For all the information about when races are, check out the race schedule.
So come out and see what Cal Cycling is like. It's a whole lot of fun.
