In Loving Memory, Corinne Crawford 1980-2007
On Sunday, June 24th our beloved teammate Corinne Crawford was riding back from ascending Mt Diablo with Christian Claussen. They were stopped at an intersection when a car swerved and struck them both. Corinne sustained a fatal head injuries and passed away on June 26th. Christian survived this tragic event and is recovering from his injuries.
Corinne was a true renaissance woman. She was a dedicated and caring teacher, had a singular gift for languages, and was a red-belt in Hankido. She was also a gifted cook and knitter, as well as a musician and she even dabbled in classical radio DJing. She was a brilliant scholar, a tender friend and a feisty, unstoppable spirit.
Cal Cycling will be holding a memorial dinner for Corinne tonight (Wednesday, 6/27) from 6-9pm in the Haas Club room at the RSF. All are welcome. From 6-7pm there will be snacks and an opportunity to sign a poster that the team will send to Corinne's family. From 7-9 pm the team will remember Corinne's life together. On hand will be the Tang Center's grief counselors. Corinne's father will also be there so everyone can share their love for her with him.
On Saturday, June 30th, there will be a memorial ride in Corinne's honor. The ride will meet at Sproul Plaza on the UC Berkeley campus at 9:30am. At that time, team members will say a few words, and then the ride will leave at 10am. The ride will arrive at the site of the accident at 12pm. Everyone is welcome to leave flowers and anything else that they would like to bring there. All are welcome to join. The ride itself is approximately 20 miles to the intersection. Those not wishing or unable to do the ride are welcome to join the group at the intersection (Olympic Blvd. and Newell Ave. in Walnut Creek) at noon.
Further information can be found at the Caring Bridges website. You can also share your memories of Corinne there.
Donations
Christian was also involved in the accident. We are working on helping him and his roommate, another cyclist on the team, attend the services for Corinne in Vermont. We are also working with her family to help a charitable foundation or scholarship. Please check back once we know more details.
